The Problem:

The customer was re-purposing former London Underground D Stock as a cost effective alternative for train operators looking to buy new vehicles. To do this they required a compact compressed air system capable of producing high quality air.

KSL Solution:

Working closely with the customer, KSL designed a complete air compressor system, including motor, control equipment and frame. Also included were our own design after cooler, filter pack and membrane dryer. The frame was subject to structural analysis and FEA in house, demonstrating compliance with RSSB standards. The system included a dual pressure control system which optimised compressor duty cycle.

Performance:

430 l/min @ 10 bar (4.5 kW)

Outcome:

A total of 42 compressor systems have been supplied to Vivarail.
